We are keenly aware that regular exercise is crucial to support both physical and mental wellbeing, and that it is hugely important to embed healthy routines from a young age.
It is also essential that the very youngest members of our school take part in regular sport and PE sessions to support the development of both their gross and fine motor skills.
From our well-loved school sports day through to fixtures and competitive opportunities with other schools, we enjoy a sporting culture that is embraced by students of all ages, resulting in young people who are keen to pursue an active lifestyle when they leave us.
A STRUCTURED PROGRAMME
Sport and PE is taught by a subject specialist
Through our structured programme developed by our Head of Sport, children learn to develop key sporting skills and techniques whilst focussing on the ‘ABCs’ of athletic ability – Agility, Balance, Co-ordination and Speed.
In lessons, Sport and PE is taught in co-educational groups so that all pupils have the opportunity to enjoy the sports on offer. In the Prep school lessons include, swimming, football, cricket, netball, tag rugby, hockey, tennis and athletics.
In the Pre-Prep pupils take part in dance, gymnastics, yoga, mini tennis and cricket, football and athletics, with children in Year 2 also taking swimming lessons for one term per year.
Besides making full use of our wonderful playground, we also utilise excellent local facilities such as Poolside Manor swimming pool and Powerleague.
COMPETITION & FIXTURES
Hendon Prep has an established reputation for sporting excellence
Hendon Prep recently came top of the Barnet Netball League and second in the cricket championship.
Sporting fixtures and competition are a fantastic way to instil values of commitment, resilience, discipline, teamwork, leadership, respect, perseverance, and dedication in our children.
Pupils at Hendon Prep have the opportunity to represent their school, to experience the exhilaration of a hard-fought victory and the heartbreak of a narrow loss.
Through sport at Hendon Prep, pupils build character and qualities that will serve them well in future life.
